Step Fifteen: First Big Milestone

Unless you've spent a lot of time in a hospital, you might not realize just how many times they ask you for your name and birthdate: Before any medication, everytime they check vitals, all meal trays, and any special tests (just to name a few). Considering the number of hospitals and visits we went through in the past 3 years, Harold was asked that information quite a few times.  I never really thought about it and it became very routine.  He would even say it before they asked just to get a laugh from the nurses.  4-20-49, 4-20-49...

Well, guess what tomorrow is...4-20-49...well, actually 4-20-10, but I hear the full date.  I really have two dates to consider. Yesterday was 3 months and tomorrow is the first birthday.  I've had it on my mind for a while, but haven't dwelled on it.  Now, it's time.  I can't ignore it or pretend it's not here since it will occur every year.  Instead, I'll be happy for the years up to this time and the joy Harold had in the first 60 years.

This would be 61 years.  Harold loved being 60.  He said it gave him the right to say anything he wanted...because he was 60.  I'm so glad he got that chance.  Actually, I think he practiced that before 60, but he took full credit once he hit the magic number.  Being 61 would have just provided more opportunities.  Harold never really wanted a big celebration for his birthday. He always seemed to get what he wanted...when he wanted it, so it wasn't easy buying presents.  He did love chocolate birthday cake, and he enjoyed being remembered by his family and friends.

So, it's okay to think about him, laugh about him and remember him...he'd like that.  I know he's having such a happy day and feeling wonderful.  God is good and I'm thankful that Harold is enjoying the best birthday ever!
Love,
Judy

Step Fourteen: Still Going Forward

It's hard to believe it's been more than 2 months.  Things are going well, we closed on the Itasca Carwash so that is one more thing I don't have to worry about.  I still love my place here in Lake Jackson.  I'm spending lots of time with my flowers (always a favorite with me) in my courtyard.  I already have about 10 different kinds.  It's theraputic to take care of them and watch them grow, and it makes a great view from my big windows.

I had a really good Easter with the kids.  I got to dye eggs with O and watch him "hunt" with Cooper, Juliet, and Haley.  It was a great weekend and being at the old house on Nolan River brought back great memories for everyone.  Only the faces hunting the eggs have changed and some of the "kids" have gotten taller!

It is getting harder and harder to leave after special weekends at home.  I'm glad I have a comfortable house here to come to, but miss everyone. I spent some time at the farm last weekend, but I'm still having a hard time there.  It is so much Harold, but that's a good thing!

I appreciate everyone.  I still hear from you and know how much you care.  I couldn't do it without you! Keep us in your prayers.
Love Judy
